Candle holders are an integral part of every home and they are available in various shapes and sizes. In olden days a hurricane candle holder was just a cover around a light or a lamp to protect it from being blown out by the wind and was used a great deal as there was no electricity and gas. That was the epoch when it used to be lit with oil.

Comparatively, today’s version is a decorative piece. It is made of sheer glass and has a glass stand on which a candle is fixed. Though there are many different shapes available in the market today, the most common design is the one with a glass dome which is wide at the bottom and tapers to a flute like design at the top.

Hurricane candle holders come in various sizes, the smallest being 7 inches and the largest 14 inches. If a colored candle is placed in it, apart from exuding a warm glow it will also looks beautiful, especially as the center piece of a table decoration. A floral decor around it further enhances its beauty.

Some of these holders come with an old fashioned cover and feature a handle on the top. These can be used to enhance the decor of the garden or backyard and look great even when hung from a tree or a decorated pole. They are available in different colors such as green, bronze, and silver, black and white.

Having come into vogue a long time ago, the hurricane candle holders are representative of an era gone by. They come in various shapes like a cylinder, a bulb-like lower part with a narrow top and even an hour glass shape. The glass is either colored, plain, frosted or decorated and now even ensconces scented candles at times. An accessory of this nature is not only useful around the house but is worthy as a decorative item as well.
